DAY BY DAY, Uganda Safari, Itinerary

Day 1: To Zziwa Rhino Sanctuary and Murchison Falls National Park

The pick-up will be from either the hotel or the airport upon arrival. Be up early, have breakfast and drive off to Zziwa Rhino Sanctuary. Once there, you will proceed for an hour of on-foot rhino tracking. From the rhino tracking, head to Masindi where you will have a lunch stop. After lunch, embark on the transfer to Murchison Falls NP. The highlights of this park include the roaring rapids of the Murchison, the rolling plains of Uganda’s largest National Park where you will have the chance of viewing lions, giraffes, hartebeest, buffalo, and elephants. Then surely, the concentration of hippos and the Nile crocodiles here will fascinate you. If interested and time allows, you can proceed for a late afternoon-evening game drive. Dinner and overnight stay at Murchison River Lodge

Day 2: Morning Game Drive - Afternoon Boat cruise

Welcome to morning game drive in the park. You will need to be up before the sun and in the vehicle after a quick snack to see the best sightings. This is when the land is cool and the animals are most active, when anything is possible and sighting comes quickly. Elephants, buffalo and several species of antelope, lions, leopard are some of the animals you may come accross. Later in the day you will take a boat safari towards Murchison Falls which is the special highlight of the day. On this 3-hour journey upstream on the Victoria Nile you will pass by breathtaking scenery, many crocodiles, hippos, buffaloes, water birds, and monkeys that come down to the Nile for a cool drink in the hot afternoon. The boat will drop you near the waterfall for your hike (1-1.5 hrs) up to the top of the falls. Journey time: 3 hours. Breakfast, lunch, dinner & overnight stay at Murchison River Lodge.

Day 3: Chimp Trekking at Budongo Forest - Transfer to Hoima

Be up early and drive off (about 1hr 15 mins.) to Budongo Forest Reserve. We shall arrive in time for the 8:00 am briefing. From the briefing, we shall proceed to encounter the human’s closest relatives in the wild. Enjoy a guided primate walk in the lush expenses of the tropical forest in search of the habituated chimpanzee family. Your guide will explain more about the animals and plant species that you'll encounter on your way. After the trek, we can take some rest and lunch at Budongo Eco Lodge. Thereafter, we shall embark on a transfer (not so long) to Hoima town. Dinner and overnight stay at Kontiki Hotel.

Day 4: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

Have a relaxed breakfast at the accommodation and drive off to Queen Elizabeth National Park. You will reach Queen early enough to have lunch, rest and then proceed out for game viewing. During the game drive, look out for wild animals like reedbuck, bushbuck, kob, warthogs, elephants, lions and buffaloes to mention but a few. Alternatively, you could choose to go for the Queen’s breathtaking explosion crater drive (instead). The drive is sightseeing with a very spectacular view of the breathtaking scenery in and around Queen. There is also some wildlife to see along the drive although the commonest are sights of Cape buffaloes plus elephants. Return to the accommodation for relaxation, dinner and the overnight stay at Bush Lodge (Banda).

Day 5: Morning Game Drive - Boat cruise - Transfer to Bwindi

Be up early and proceed for an early morning game drive in the Kasenyi plains. Be on the look for Cape buffalos, herds of elephants, lions, and leopards (though hard to spot) among others. Return to the lodge and check out then head to the Ishasha Sector in search of tree-climbing lions. The chance of spotting these lions is about 70% though sometimes they are hard to spot (most especially when they are down in the grassland looking for prey). Should you get to spot them, the sight is picturesque and memorable. From Ishasha, we shall continue to the accommodation at the edge of Bwindi National Park (Ruhija sector), arriving in the evening (at around 6:00 pm). Dinner and overnight stay at Bwindi Cultural Lodge.

Day 6: Gorilla Trekking - Transfer to Lake Mburo National Park

You will wake up early in the morning and head to the park headquarters to join other trekkers for briefing about dos and don’ts while with mountain gorillas. You will then penetrate the forest in the company of the ranger guides and then start the search for the gorillas. Your tracking experience will be an exciting, yet challenging, journey along forested (often muddy and slippery) slopes, tangled vines, thick vegetation and bamboo forests before you reach the territory of these gentle giants. En-route, your ranger will point out telltale signs of previous gorilla activity, like dung, nests and chewed bamboo shoots. Depending on the location of the gorillas on any given day the walk can take anything from 2 to 7 hours. Once the family of gorillas have been located, settle in to your surroundings and enjoy the hour you have to quietly observe these fascinating primates whose habits and mannerisms remind us so much of our own. Encountering the mountain gorillas in the wild is a truly humbling and emotional experience, one that you are sure to remember for the rest of your life. Return to the accommodation, check out and transfer to Lake Mburo National Park. Dinner, overnight stay and breakfast at Rwakobo Rock.

Day 7: Guided Walking Safari - Transfer to Entebbe

Enjoy your early breakfast and proceed for the Mburo morning park (bush) walk in the presence of an armed Uganda Wildlife Authority ranger guide. On this early morning guided walk, you will have the opportunity to encounter (at close range): zebras, giraffes, eland, topi, other antelope, and Cape buffaloes among others. Take the trail to the top of the hills and see Lake Mburo and beyond. From this vantage point, you will have a great view of 9 of the twelve lakes surrounding Lake Mburo National Park. Thereafter, return to the accommodation for checkout and then hit the road to Entebbe Airport to catch a flight (at 6:00 pm or later). No accommodation (End of tour).
