Day 2: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park

After breakfast you will drive 8 hours to Kibale Forest National Park via Fort Portal. The scenic drive will take you through tea plantations, lively village markets and over rolling hills of lush green countryside. Kibale Forest National Park is an extensive tract of dense tropical rainforest located just south of the town Fort Portal. The park is home to the highest density of primates in all of Africa including the rare red colobus monkey, black and white colobus, colorful birds and chimpazees. The highlight of a trip to Kibale Forest is of course to spend some time observing the wonderfully entertaining chimpanzees. Journey time: 8 hours. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and overnight at Papaya Lake Lodge.

Day 3: Chimpanzee Tracking & Swamp Walk

After breakfast you will have the opportunity to follow an experienced guide into the forest to observe the fascinating chimps at a close range. Watching them interact with each other and go about their daily routine of grooming, playing and foraging is an incredible experience. Chimpanzees share 98% of our human DNA, making them our closest living relatives. It is not so surprising then that we find the habits and biology of these primates so fascinating to study. While Chimpanzees can be found in 21 countries throughout Africa, they are most easily sighted in Uganda due to the high concentration of the species here. Later in the day you will visit the local communities and get to know their day-to-day way of life; Or go for swamp walk at Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary. For bird lovers the highlight of the swamp walk is spotting the beautiful great blue turaco. Both the Community Walk and Swamp Walk are operated by KAFRED, a registered CBO and the income is used to develop community projects like hospitals. Please let Blessedia know which walk you prefer in the afternoon

Day 4: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

After breakfast you will drive for 3½ hours to Queen Elizabeth National Park. This park is Uganda’s most visited game reserve and arguably the most scenic. The national park protects the vast savannah plains, bushland, wetlands and forests that lie at the base of the Rwenzori mountain range. Kazinga Channel, which flows through the park and connects Lake George in the east to Lake Edward in the west, attracts a rich array of animals and birds, including the Nile crocodile and one of the world’s largest concentration of hippos. You will spend the next two (02) nights at Kyambura Game Lodge. Kyambura Game Lodge is situated at the eastern edge of Queen Elizabeth National Park, in the western part of the great East African Rift valley. Journey time: 3½ hours. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and overnight stay at Kyambura Game Lodge.

Day 5: Morning Game Drive & Afternoon Boat Safari

Welcome to morning game drive in the park. You will need to be up before the sun and in the vehicle after a quick snack to see the best sightings. This is when the land is cool and the animals are most active, when anything is possible and sighting comes quickly. Elephants, buffalo and several species of antelope, lions, leopard are some of the animals you may come accross. Later in the day you will go for a boat safari. when the sun is high in the sky the animals make their way to the river for a drink, we will head to Kazinga Channel for an exciting boat safari (a fantastic way to get close to wildlif). You can also visit Kyambura Gorge (home to several primate species including chimpanzees, the red-tailed monkey, black-and-white colobus, baboons and vervet monkeys and colorful bird species). This activity is at additional cost of USD 50 per person. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and overnight stay at Kyambura Game Lodge.

Day 6: Transfer to Bwindi Forest National Park

After breakfast you will travel 3 hours to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, the home of the Mountain Gorillas in Uganda. You will spend the next two (02) nights at Buhoma lodge. Buhoma Lodge is an intimate and charming property that commands spectacular and uninterrupted views of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. One of only two lodges situated within the National Park, within a short walking distance from the meeting point for gorilla tracking and other activities in the Buhoma area. An elevated central area, complete with lounge, bar and dining area, offers a cosy, comfortable environment to discuss the day’s activities around the fireplaces which add atmosphere and warmth in the cool evenings. Journey time: 3 hours. Breakfast, lunch, dinner & overnight stay at Buhoma lodge.

Day 7: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Forest

After breakfast you will have an opportunity to follow an experienced park ranger deep in the forest to track one of the nine habituated gorilla family residing here. Half of the world’s population of gorillas live under the mist-covered canopies of Uganda’s oldest and most biologically diverse rainforest. This is exciting yet challenging journey along forested (often muddy and slippery) slopes, tangled vines, thick vegetation and bamboo forests before you reach the territory of these gentle giants. The ranger will point out signs of previous gorilla activity, like dung, nests and chewed bamboo shoots. Depending on the location of the gorillas on any given day the walk can take anything from 2 to 7 hours. Encountering the mountain gorillas is a truly humbling and emotional experience. The lodge will provide your gorilla tracking permit. Remember to bring the permit and your passport when you depart for the hike. Breakfast, packed lunch & Dinner & overnight stay at Buhoma lodge.
