Our Guide For Sustainable Tourism ...

TIP #1 – BUY FROM AND SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESSES

When it comes to eating, sleeping and buying souvenirs, choosing where you spend your money can have a massive impact on the community. By having dinner at the local restaurant, staying in a family-run guest house, you are helping to inject money directly into the local economy. Besides creating a more authentic travel experience for yourself, you are also helping someone create a better life for themselves. Buying from and supporting local businesses empowers the local economy. But this is not all. Local products do not involve transportation, require less packaging, and create more jobs.

TIP #2 – RESPECTING THE CULTURE OF LOCAL COMMUNITIES

TIP #3 – CHOOSE SUSTAINABLE ACCOMMODATION

At Blessedia we select accommodation that is environmentally friendly, with excellent locations and good service standard. There are thousands of options available for you when it comes to finding a place to rest your head on that unforgettable holiday experience. Blessdia works with other organizations and the local communities to protect the environment through tree planting in every destination we visit.

TIP #4 – LOWER YOUR FOOTPRINT

There are a lot of great ways to lower your environmental impact when you are travelling. Instead of always taking taxis to get you from A to B, see if a local bus can get you to where you need to go. If the distance you need to go isn’t too far, walk instead of jumping on public transport for one or two stops. If you really want a great way to explore an area, rent a bicycle! Not only is it good for the environment, but it is good for your travelling budget and your health too.

TIP #5 – LIMIT YOUR WASTE

Waste management is a major issue in most developing countries and we as travelers often unknowingly contribute to this problem. Say no to plastic bags from shops and instead put your items in a backpack or a cloth bag. Eat and drink in the cafe rather than going for take away.

TIP #6 – DONATE TO SUSTAINABLE TOURISM ORGANIZATIONS

Blessedia works in partnership with Action Cannot Wait International (ACWI) who is taking the fight for sustainable tourism. In addition to volunteering your time to them, donate as much as you can. Financially supporting them will help them continue their efforts towards attaining a greener planet for us all.

TIP #7 – WALK WHERE POSSIBLE

Walking is the most basic and convenient way of touring a new place, in addition to the fact that it reduces your carbon footprints. Get help from tour guides who advise on areas that are safe to walk through, and do so.

TIP #8 – GO GREEN

In your hotel room, ask them not to change your sheets and towels every day. Turn off the air conditioning, heater and electronic gadgets when you leave your room. Also, stay in hotels that have recycling programs in place and abide by them. When traveling, travel with reusable like reusable water bottles, travel mugs, a cloth shopping bag for the groceries, and containers for leftovers, all the while, avoiding single-use disposables.
